Poll!
"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history." - Pat Robertson
I know this quote is rather extreme, but this is something that's been on my mind lately. It's a sentiment I seem to hear with some frequency, on TV and in real life (though not of that severity, lol). So I'd like to know what you all think about it.
Do you think Christians are a persecuted minority in America?
I'd love everyone's feedback on this, Christian folk or otherwise.

No, we don't drag Christians off into gas chambers or put them into death camps. Just because someone doesn't like your version of Christianity/ religion, doesn't mean they're Hitler. You're probably Hitler undercover.
BTW, I read another post of yours. Native Americans didn't go anywhere. We're still here... ish. The white man killed the culture.
hell no.
I heard this same sentiment on the radio. this man was talking about how gay people were key in the establishment in America of an authoritarian government. his evidence for this was their being upset at the results of the marriage amendment. ridiculous. apparently, some people still don't understand basic concepts of free speech. they were protesting the ban on gay marriage- not our democratic way of government.
yes. there is a minority being repressed here.
it isn't christians. [and since when are they a minority, anyway?]
ahhh. sorry I ranted on your site. I just get so angry when I hear stupid things like that on the radio.

The whole problem with Christianity or any religion, actually, is it fosters an 'us vs them' attitude. It makes people intolerant of differences. It makes harmless affectations like homosexuality or a different belief or spiritual practice into 'sins' and even though the Bible says something to the effect of 'judge not, lest ye be judged' (a variation of the only rule man needs--the golden rule) they still feel the need to persecute and condemn people for simply being different. Most people who call themselves Christians (or Muslim for that matter) and go through all the dogmatic empty rituals, are not even close.
And, to answer your question, no--Christians are not a minority and not persecuted any more or less than homosexuals or Jews. They're just made fun of a lot. And they can be viscious...
As a Christian Methodist, I suppose I represent the so-called persecuted minority. However, I don't feel that way, nor have I ever felt persecuted for my religion. I guess I'm the lucky few in this country who can worship as they please without persecution. I hope someday we can all worship without persecution, especially in this country known as the US of A, where so many people come to this country for freedom and security.
No, that's ridiculous! I consider myself Christian; and I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (better known as Mormons)... We have to have armed escorts to attend our temples in California, sure. People have lost jobs because they're Mormon, sure, but this in no way compares to the Holocaust.
Also, you can't say this is the worst treated minority in American history! Look at Blacks! Look what we did to the Japanese in WWII!
This is nothing.
I was a Christian for nearly 18 years. I have sense renounced my religion for logic's sake, but I still enjoy studying other religions. When I was a Christian, however, I cannot remember being persecuted once for my religion. I was only a child for the most part, but me nor my parents nor my friends were ever put down for it. Christianity is still the leading religion of the world. I find it kind of presumptuous that someone is comparing the Christian problems to those of the Jews during WWII...
No. Christians are not a persecuted minority. And those Christians who think they are should listen to old Black folks who lived through segregation. Now those people were a persecuted minority. Oh and Muslims do not do to well in this country...all you have to do is read one of those Revelife posts to know what I am talking about.Â
My mother's religion was illegal in the United States until 1976 when my sister was 4 years old.
That quote is wrong about a lot of things that I simply could never take that seriously.
The liberal media does paint conservative Christians as stupid.
i agree with nightcometh they do paint the christians stupid and redneck..
And the conservative media portrays them alternatively as heroic or as victims.
No way
America and even its law is governed around so much Christian belief, if it wasn't then perhaps legitimizing gay marriages wouldn't be such a big deal, I mean I don't see why anyone would see Christians in America as a minority or persecuted. Not as a group at least, but every individual has their own story
@hiddenxxtruth - I couldn't agree more.
